Joel Canning
Joel Canning is an experienced Chartered Accountant and the Founder and Managing Director of Canning Tax & Advisory. Joel’s focus is working with small and medium sized businesses in navigating and better understanding the business and tax landscape they operate in so they can reach their goals. Joel sees the value that countless businesses have had working closely with their accountant, whether it be navigating the complexities of tax or the operational and strategic issues a business will face over its lifetime.
Joel’s accomplishments include providing outsourced CFO and tax support services for a vertically integrated agricultural business, developing budget and forecasting models, implementing strategic operational enhancements, covenant reporting and the review of federal and state taxes resulting in his client’s saving millions of dollars in annual tax. He has helped clients streamline their business structures to ensure improvements in operational, tax, estate planning and asset protection strategies including for businesses operating across international borders. Outside of his experience in public practice he has spent time working in an ASX 50 freight company leading a business function and developing and delivering operational improvements in that function.
Joel has a strong passion for assisting regional and rural based businesses. This is in part due to Joel growing up on and being involved in his family’s agricultural enterprise in regional Queensland. This is something he continues to be involved in today. He works with clients across a broad spectrum of industries including Accommodation, Agriculture, Construction, Freight, Hospitality, Medical, Mining Support, Professional Services and Retail.

- Justice of the Peace (Qual)
Outside of the office Joel loves spending as much time as possible with his wife and two children. He enjoys playing Tennis and Golf along with watching Tennis and Formula 1 when he gets the opportunity.
