Joel Canning

Joel Canning is a Chartered Accountant and the Founder of Canning Tax & Advisory. He works closely with small and medium-sized businesses across Australia to help them better understand the challenges they face; from tax and structure to strategy, operations and long-term planning.

Known for his clear thinking and down-to-earth style, Joel is often the person clients call when things feel complex or unclear. He cuts through the noise, breaks down the detail, and helps business owners make confident, informed decisions.

Joel’s work is focused on strategic thinking and practical outcomes; advising on tax structuring, business model refinement, budgeting, forecasting, estate planning and asset protection strategies. Whether it’s navigating day-to-day decisions or planning years ahead, Joel helps clients move forward with clarity and purpose.

Raised on a family farm in regional Queensland, Joel understands the pressures and opportunities facing regional businesses. He remains hands-on in agriculture and works with clients across a wide range of industries including Agriculture, Accommodation, Construction, Freight, Hospitality, Medical, Mining Support, Professional Services and Retail; delivering business and tax advice with a practical edge.

Outside the office, Joel enjoys time with his wife and three children, playing tennis and golf, and watching Formula 1.
